Is the magic fading for Stranger Things? Fans seem to think so, as the latest episode plunges to near-record lows in viewer ratings. The highly anticipated final season of Netflix’s sci-fi sensation has taken an unexpected turn, leaving many fans divided. Volume two of Stranger Things Season 5, released on Christmas Day, promised an epic showdown between the residents of Hawkins and the malevolent Vecna (played by Jamie Campbell Bower). But here's where it gets controversial: while the previous volume’s finale, Chapter Four: Sorcerer, soared to the top of fan ratings on IMDb, the latest conclusion, Chapter Seven: The Bridge, has plummeted to one of the show’s lowest-rated episodes ever. With a score of just 6.7 out of 10 from 22,000 votes, it’s now the second-worst received episode, barely edging out 2017’s The Lost Sister. And this is the part most people miss: the series as a whole has seen a sharp decline in fan appreciation, dropping from an 89% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes for Season 4 to a mere 67% for Season 5. Critics, however, remain largely positive, with an 84% “fresh” rating. So, what’s going on? Is the show losing its spark, or are fans simply holding it to an impossible standard? NME’s Nick Levine described Volume One as “the big, bold beginning of the end,” praising its epic and emotionally resonant storytelling. Yet, Volume Two seems to have fallen short for many.
