A chilling situation unfolds as newly released CCTV footage reveals a convicted murderer on the loose, sparking a widespread manhunt.
This story takes us to Bristol, where the search for two absconded inmates from HMP Leyhill continues. On New Year's Day, three individuals failed to return to the open prison in South Gloucestershire. The latest development? CCTV images have surfaced, showing Daniel Washbourne, aged 40, and Matthew Armstrong, 35, a convicted murderer, in Bristol on January 3rd and 4th.
One of the three, Aaron Thomas, 39, has since been apprehended, after voluntarily surrendering to the authorities and appearing in court on Monday. However, the search for Washbourne and Armstrong remains a top priority.
Avon and Somerset Police have reported multiple sightings, but also acknowledge the 'distinct possibility' that the men may have left the immediate area. This adds another layer of complexity to the ongoing investigation.
One of the released CCTV images shows Armstrong and Washbourne on Ashley Road, Bristol, around 10:35 GMT on Saturday, heading towards the Stokes Croft area. Another image captures a man walking along Filton Road and Gloucester Road North in Filton, checking bus timetables at approximately 09:45 on Sunday. The police believe this man to be Armstrong, based on his burgundy coat.
And this is the part most people miss... The footage suggests Armstrong continued walking along the same road, and was spotted in the Patchway area between 11:05 and 11:15.
But here's where it gets controversial... The police are pursuing other leads but are limited in what they can disclose to avoid jeopardizing the investigation. Neither Armstrong nor Washbourne are known to have any connections to the Bristol area, which further complicates the situation.
Armstrong, who has links to Warwickshire, is described as a white male, approximately 5ft 9ins tall, with ginger hair and scars on his forehead. Washbourne, with connections to Herefordshire, is described as a white male, about 5ft 6ins, slim, with brown hair and clean-shaven.
