Is the President accusing protesters of being paid actors, or is he projecting? Jimmy Kimmel isn't buying President Trump's claims that the demonstrators in Minneapolis were merely "paid agitators." On his show, Kimmel directly challenged the President, urging him to "Prove it!"
Kimmel suggested that Trump's belief in paid protesters stems from his own worldview. "I believe he believes it," Kimmel stated, "He can’t imagine anyone ever doing anything without getting paid for it." The host then cleverly flipped the accusation, pointing out that Trump himself has engaged in activities that could be construed as being paid to incite action. "You know who is a paid agitator? You! You literally sold a cryptocoin that says, ‘Fight, fight, fight,’ on it. You’re a paid agitator surrounded by a bunch of greasy little paid agitator-tots."
But here's where it gets controversial... Kimmel's take on the escalating situation is stark: "If it seems like things are getting scarier by the day, it’s because they are." He believes the current climate is genuinely more perilous, not just a perception.
This exchange comes in the wake of a highly criticized joint operation by ICE and Border Patrol in Minnesota. This operation not only sparked widespread protests but, tragically, led to the deaths of two Minneapolis residents, Renee Good and Alex Pretti. In the aftermath, Kimmel highlighted the precarious position of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. He quipped, "Kristi Noem, a woman who has never met a crime scene she couldn’t match her lipstick to, is on the hot seat right now." Despite calls for her resignation, Trump's decision to keep her in her post was seen by Kimmel as a sure sign of her impending departure. "I mean, she’s like a puppy in a gravel pit when you say something like that."
Even Border Patrol Commander Greg Bovino wasn't spared. Kimmel described him as a "clown" who is "being sent to the bench for sure," noting his banishment back to El Centro and the suspension of his social media access. And this is the part most people miss... Kimmel posed a pointed question: "Do you know how bad things have to be for Donald Trump to take your social media away?"
Finally, Kimmel touched upon the upcoming documentary "Melania," by director Brett Ratner. He relayed writer Michael Wolf's observation that Melania Trump is reportedly upset that the Minneapolis events are overshadowing the release of the film, which Kimmel sarcastically referred to as a "$75 million bribe — I mean, documentary — that Amazon made for her." He also mocked Trump's supposed endorsement of the film as a "must-watch," suggesting the President likely couldn't stay awake through it. "For him, it is a must. Not for us. But for him, yes," Kimmel concluded.
